Pine Plains Ny

Pine Plains is a town in Dutchess County, New York, USA. The population was 2,569 at the 2000 census. The name is derived from the geographic character of the region.

The Hamlet of Pine Plains is on the north border of the county.

The town was part of the Little Nine Partners Patent of 1706. The town was first settled around 1740 by Moravian missionaries to the native Mahican village of Shekomeko. The Town of Pine Plains was formed from the Town of North East in 1823.

PINE PLAINS, N.Y.–A state government official says a former student has surrendered to police after taking a school administrator hostage at an upstate New York high school.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly, says the gunman surrendered at Stissing Mountain High School about 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Pine Plains Town Supervisor Gregg Pulver says the gunman is a man in his 40s. He says no shots were fired.

The school about 90 miles north of New York City has been on lockdown.

Armed officers are standing guard at the front door of the school. The handcuffed man was led to an ambulance, where he was checked by paramedics.
